Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
My interest in treating OCD grew from working with clients who had struggled for years without getting the right diagnosis or treatment. Many had been told they simply had anxiety, perfectionism, or excessive worry, when in reality they were experiencing OCD. Seeing how often OCD was misunderstood, as well as the suffering it caused, led me to pursue specialized training in OCD treatment.
While OCD and anxiety can overlap, OCD is not simply an anxiety disorder. OCD involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts, images, urges, or sensations that create distress and uncertainty, often leading individuals to engage in compulsions, rituals, avoidance, reassurance-seeking, or mental checking in an attempt to feel better. Unfortunately, these strategies tend to strengthen OCD over time.
I specialize in treating OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard, evidence-based treatment for OCD. ERP helps individuals gradually face feared thoughts, feelings, and situations while resisting compulsive responses. Through this process, clients learn that they can tolerate uncertainty, respond differently to distress, and reclaim parts of their lives that OCD has taken over.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each person's unique experience. Whether you've recently been diagnosed or have spent years wondering why traditional anxiety treatment hasn't fully helped, meaningful change is possible with the right support and treatment approach.
